Job Description
This position is responsible for ensuring that all construction personnel perform their work in safe manner to achieve zero accidents and incidents. The construction companies and their personnel are to comply with Owner's established safety procedures and policies and well as OSHA procedures and regulations. This position will also act as the safety coordinator between the Owner and the construction contractors.
Basic Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures that all construction personnel are properly trained in the Owner's site safety requirements and procedures and are trained in the basic OSHA regulations for construction.
- Reviews potential construction company's safety policies, procedures, and company's safety performance during the pre-qualification/bidding phase of the project to ensure the company meets the established requirements which cover the Owner's policy and requirements.
- Check and review contractors' plans and work permits and make sure those are complying with the Owner's policy and requirements and OSHA regulations.
- Conducts field-monitoring activities associated with confined space entry, hot work permitting, excavation permits, crane operation, equipment loading/unloading, etc.
- Maintains and records permits along with copies of Pre Task Assessment or Pre Task Plans.
- Reviews/Audits daily safety activity conducted by Contractor Safety Personnel with their personnel. Conducts weekly safety reviews with the Owner management and Contract personnel.
- Conducts accident investigations and incident reports as needed.
- Maintains safety records as required by the Owner and government regulations.
- Takes immediate corrective action for any unsafe acts observed, involving the Owner management and Contractor management for immediate review.
- In coordination with the Owner, helps manage the Construction Security. Set schedules for construction security personnel and notify plant personnel of any changes or planned events. Maintain Construction badge inventory, issues badges, etc.
- Helps maintain traffic control including limitation of vehicles on site, parking, etc.
- Maintains the construction fields, work area, traffic area cleaned.
- Helps maintain employee/contractor morale through positive reinforcement and incentives.
Current work will be located at the job site office in Decatur, Alabama on a long term project.
Other Skills and Conditions
- 10+ years of experience in the construction industry as safety manager or safety professional.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA safety standards and regulations with emphasis on construction.
- Certification in the area of Decatur would be a plus.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
- A minimum 50 hour work week, with at least one weekend a month
- Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and basic Windows OS applications.
- All applicants are expected to have good independent, good organizational and communication skills.
- This position requires a considerable amount of walking, climbing stairs/ladders/raised platforms and other physical demanding items. A physical will be required of all candidates seriously consider of this position.
